Jo Tabit, Senior Manager Given the Chance Workforce Solutions That Matter, Brotherhood of St Laurence
A former Playwright and Manager for the Victorian Branch of the Australian Writers Guild, Jo first worked at the Brotherhood of St Laurence, (BSL) as the Mentor Coordinator for the refugee employment program pioneered by the Multicultural Communities Team (MCT), Given the Chance.
Since then, Jo has occupied a range of roles in the Brotherhood, including Program Manager of Given the Chance and MCT Manager. She now works as the Senior Manager of the Given the Chance suite of programs, and has been leading the BSL’s work to develop a demand led approach to employment, which seeks to assist disadvantaged jobseekers by more effectively servicing the industrial and diversity workforce needs of employers. Jo currently manages four separate programs of work, new Jobs Victoria Employment Network Programs for diverse jobseekers in Melbourne’s Whittlesea and Dandenong, the Community Safety and Information Service incorporating a security traineeship program, the Given the Chance for Asylum Seekers Program, a Group Training Organization, and supported labour hire programs for a range of partner employers such as ANZ, Citywide, John Holland, Parks Victoria and the Cities of Melbourne and Yarra.
