Joanna Josephs is the Operations Manager of the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD inc.). CARAD provides essential case management, emergency relief and volunteer support for people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds in Perth, WA.
As part of her role, Joanna re-established a Detention Visiting Program in 2015 which has provided social support and advocacy to more than 250 detainees through a team of dedicated volunteers. She has also led CARAD’s first social enterprise project, the Fare Go Food Truck, which provides the opportunity for people from refugee and asylum seeker background to gain employment experience while connecting with the community through cultural food.
Joanna holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of International Development and previously worked in the Philippines in microfinance and livelihood development and in anti-human trafficking initiatives.
Joanna will be joining the session “Reforming Immigration Detention” on Tuesday 19 February from 3.00pm – 4.30pm.
