Every year, the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) hosts a get-together for people from across the refugee rights movement to meet, share updates, evaluate the past year and plan for future challenges.
Now in our fourth year, this process has to date fostered an incredible collaboration within the refugee rights movement. Most notably, over 200 people from over 70 organisations worked together to put together the Platform for Change; a shared vision for a humane refugee policy platform. This incredible resource is now available to use as the basis for campaigns, advocacy and more.
We’ll kick off the day with updates from the past 12 months; from refugee community members, NGOs and others. We’ll then have a chance to catch up and meet one another properly while sharing a delicious lunch, provided by Mu’ooz Eritrean restaurant.
Later on, we’ll speak directly to this year’s Refugee Alternatives theme, The Challenge of Change. Together, we will examine the ways in which we work together as a movement; what we have achieved and what we need to improve, as well as looking ahead to key challenges and opportunities. We will brainstorm ways in which we can improve and adapt our work and collaboration to get the outcomes we need.
