Dr Robyn Sampson is an internationally recognised expert on alternatives to immigration detention. Her research on alternatives to detention, undertaken with the International Detention Coalition, is a key resource in international debates on this issue. That work has been presented to over 50 governments and used by several countries – including Japan, Mexico, Belgium and Thailand – to introduce less harmful policies. She has been an invited expert speaker and technical advisor for the UNHCR, OHCHR, IOM and several governments. Her work continues to provide a foundation for governments around the world to explore more humane treatment of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. Robyn was awarded the ‘Silver Angel Award’ by the G200 Youth Forum in 2015 for her work promoting the human rights of refugees. She holds a PhD in politics from La Trobe University.
Robyn will be moderating the session “Reforming Immigration Detention” on Tuesday 19 February from 3.00pm – 4.30pm.
